If you really like exploring and are interested in how people used to live in "old Spain" there a several old uninhabited "cave houses" near here (one is pictured on the right).

One is only about ten minutes walk away and the others are about 45 minutes walk from Villa Tranquilo. Each has several rooms inside and you can still see where the people used to cook and sleep. We have often seen an animal or two (including bats) inside using it for shelter.

For the more adventurous there is a local walk that takes you to the top (La Vella) of the Sierra Crevillente range of mountains. You can see the masts on top of the range from the villa (yes those little dots on the top right-hand hill are what we are talking about) and wonder if it is possible to get there - and it is!!!

The long walk up is mainly on wide tracks.

No vehicles are allowed because you pass through an area designated as a "microreserves de flora".

It takes about 2hrs 30 mins from leaving the car until you reach the top and it is well worth all the hard work for the views.

• this walk can only be undertaken at certain times of the year due to the heat.
• follow sensible precautions and take plenty to drink
• always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back (give them your mobile number)
• take your mobile with you - ensuring it is fully charged
